My hip hop book is a finalist in the "Lifestyle and Contemporary Culture" section of the Montana book awards!

I am up against a book on Morrocan cookery and another about local vineyards.

Jeez, what a way to get mad props. I thought I wouldn't have a hope in hell of getting short-listed and I'm definitely not holding out hopes of winning (last year's winner - a book on fly-fishing!). How do they even judge a category like that? You can find a full list of finalists here.

Anyway, I'm so goddamn happy you wouldn't believe! ... though, maybe you can tell from all the exclamation marks...

And did anyone see my pal Tze Ming on Campbell Live last night? I can't believe they showed the bit of the interview where she cried, though knowing the media these days, they probably thought it was the best bit. She stole half-a-page of the Herald as well. If her and I are the new intellectuals of this country then New Zealand is in big trouble...
