cartographer is my favourite omg because she gave me her copy of
The Chalet Girls Grow Up and it is
appalling1. \o/
This is the CS fic I was talking about, which does the Chalet-School-meets-reality thing but in an awesome way. And the
sequel. (
shihadchick, I commend them to your attention also.)
ION, I'm in DC (after having to be woken up and kicked off the train at Union Station), and it is striking how much more I like it than last year!
Gosh I wonder what that could be about. I'm staying in a cute Quaker hostel about five blocks from the Capitol, though I have to move tomorrow.
BRB GOIN TO FIND FIREWORKS.
(Oh, PS, I have a
Twitter now, and I appear to be using it, which surprises nobody more than me. Woo questionable internet decisions! It found some of you guys for me through Gmail, but I don't know who else is on there, so
add follow me?)
ETA: Fireworks were great! Listening to West Wing music on my ipod: hokey? Totally. Awesome? OMG YES.
Solemnity a little undercut by my growing conviction that there was a Jawa on top of the Washington Monument. I
hope it was just the planes-go-away signal and not actually a pair of glowing red eyes.
1I don't know why Amazon reviewers keep saying the plot is more unrealistic than the original CS, though. I get being offended on behalf of beloved characters, but how does one reach adulthood without realising that crap things do happen, and rather often at that? The characters, except for Jo (sort of) and Miss Annersley, aren't recognisable as their canon selves, but once you accept that, there's a degree of psychological realism.
